The conventional wisdom is that when something (content) is given away for free it no longer has worth - it no longer has value. But is it possible that "free" in-it-of-itself creates value?
Take note of this article: Free Monty Python Videos on Youtube Lead to 23,000% DVD Sale Increase. The handlers behind Monty Python decided to launch a "crazy" campaign which included posting all of their Monty Python content on youtube, for free. They asked, in return, that those who view consider buying the actual DVD through a provided link. And you know what? It worked. Python’s DVDs climbed to No. 2 on Amazon’s Movies & TV bestsellers list, with increased sales of 23,000 percent.
Free seemed to create value.
